Natural deodorant? Tell me more

Updated: Jun 20, 2020

You’re probably wondering why natural deodorants have been the hot new thing recently, and here’s why…

People are becoming more conscious of what they put in and on their bodies, and we love that. We’re not perfect, but since making our own products we’ve realised how simple some things really can be – and you don’t need all those added chemicals I can’t pronounce.

We all have our trusty deodorant, the ones we’ve used since we can remember because it works for us – mine was Dove original. Then I got a natural deodorant sample with one of my subscriptions and here we are! 2 years ago I switched to making my own deodorant and I have not looked back.

Most of the over counter deodorants or antiperspirants we can buy contain the active ingredient aluminium (just to name one of the 20+ ingredients). Aluminium is mostly used to block sweat glands. The bit I found concerning was that aluminium has been linked to an increase risk of breast cancer, and even been associated with Alzheimer’s disease (that theory has been traced back to 1965 when scientists found rabbits injected with high doses of aluminium developed the same tangles in the brain that lead to Alzheimer’s). Now this is to be taken lightly as I’ve not found any direct studies to prove the link, and I’m aware of how aluminium is in our bodies anyway; through food, water, pots & pans etc, but after trying the home made stuff – I knew it was a no-brainer for me to make the switch.

Did you know the Food and Drug Administration classifies antiperspirants as a drug since they prevent sweat, which is a natural bodily function?

So how can natural deodorant work without the aluminium I hear you ask?

Simply put, antiperspirant blocks sweat while deodorant deals with the odour; so natural deodorant won’t stop you sweating, but it will stop you stinkin’. We use key anti-bacterial essential oils in all our blends, which slay the bacteria that eats the moisture our body emits. It’s all natural, gentle and it smells amazing.

5 key reasons I switched;

  • The natural scent, I love the smell of essential oils, I no longer have allergies to the ‘fragrances’ (aka chemicals) used to scent the shop bought stuff.

  • No stains! This deodorant is all natural, and will wash out easily if you get it on your clothes. No more yellow marks on my white tops.

  • Less irritation – no pore clogging, my skin is softer & smoother than ever under my arms.

  • All natural, and cruelty free. No products used are tested on animals and are all organic, food grade (though we don’t recommend eating your deo!)

  • I control the scent; Lavender day? Lemon grass week? What about fruity... the world is my oyster!

  • Most importantly... no stink!

Try one of our deodorants, you’ll see how easy it is to make, and how few ingredients theree are. They are suitable for both men & women – you won’t look back – we know it.
